Satire: “the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.”
During a time full of chaos and IAs, the star on top of the Christmas tree was the election of Donald Trump. As flocks of yellow IA Extension Forms disperse from Mr Humphrey’s office, a flock of yellow hair flows through the US breeze. While I race to complete my final deadlines before the break, I look forward to turning 18 soon, knowing that Trump supporters will now only be interested in me for my vote.
In this season of giving and festive spirit The High has decided to offer you a lovely Christmas surprise under the tree: Trump articles. We’ve received feedback that we are always writing about the same topics in the same way, so for Issue 111, we opted to shake things up. Far be it from us to shy away from a writing challenge- just like Trump, we want to make The High great again…
And for those who really are not feeling political this season or dreading talk of politics at the Christmas table, we have our recurring advice column this time focussing on LOVE; Fie continues to explore environmental issues; there is a reflection on the latest school play “The Government Inspector” from the viewpoint of one of the actors; Tanu gives her opinion on celebrity obsession; and Karolina has a great article on the truly bizarre story of “Operation Bear Claw”. Finally, as always, we have our wonderful book reviews, from our hardworking book baddies, Petra and Mai, who explore two books that have made the American banned book lists.
In our small attempt to bring you something different this time, we vote for changing it up, mixing it up, and throwing some satire around this holiday season. We wish all our readers a happy and peaceful break. See you back here in ‘25!
