After the US elections ended with Trump being elected, a delightful young man named Nick Fuentes gained popularity due to one of his tweets. With his comment on the future of women after Trump’s election, Fuentes’ comment signals a bright future ahead for himself, and obviously for all females.
Even before the 2024 presidential elections, Fuentes was already an infamous person on the internet. In general, Fuentes is known for being a far-right, misogynistic, antisemitic, and generally delightful figure online. He has stated on the Southern Poverty Law Center website that he aims to make the Republican party “a truly reactionary party.” Alongside this, he has emphasized his support for male supremacy and misogyny previously online. For example, in a clip from one of his old livestreams, when discussing rape with a friend, he casually said, “It’s [rape] just so not a big deal,” while laughing.
Alongside these exciting instances, there’s one main example where Fuentes’ online presence became the center of the internet’s attention recently, when he tweeted, “Your body, my choice. Forever.” This phrase was his way of mocking women, by twisting the phrase of ‘My body, my choice,’ which was originally meant to empower women to fight for their bodily autonomy. Not only does he say the same, “Your body, my choice,” line with pure glee, but there’s other things like, “Men win again,” “We control your body,” and “We will keep you down forever,” all with mad delight on his face. These incidents caused an explosion both online and in reality. Trump supporters started using the useful phrase online to mock women, worrying about the potential overturning of abortion protection laws after Trump’s election. Because why would anyone actually need control over their own body?
On a serious note, this man’s recent words concern many women all over the world. With other men, like Andrew Tate in the past, gaining popularity online due to similar notions, our society continues to prove that people will always turn to sexist and misogynistic comments and attitudes, no matter what women do to stop it. However, this should only push women and encourage them to keep fighting for women’s basic rights, which we have, and always will deserve.
